The effect of substrate temperature on the morphology of diamond films grown under acetylene-lean and acetylene-rich conditions

چکیده
The effect of substrate temperature on the morphology of diamond films grown by chemical vapor deposition is examined. Under some conditions increasing substrate temperature causes the film morphology to shift from {100} toward {111} faceting, whereas under other conditions exactly the opposite trend is observed. It is found that the factor that differentiates these two regimes is the abundance of acetylene relative to C radicals (mainly CH and in some cases C) at the growth surface. This 1 3 conclusion is reached by comparing two new sets of experiments, in which diamond films were deposited using an RF thermal plasma operating at either 200 or 700 Torr, with each other as well as with other results in the literature for several different growth environments. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Using DC-Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (PECVD) system, the impact of pure Co onthe growth of diamond-like carbon (DLC) nano-structures were investigated. In this study, Acetylene(C2H2) was diluted in H2 and used as the reaction gas and Cobalt (Co) nano-particles were used asthe catalyst. The effect of preparing Co catalyst at temperatures of 240°C and 350°C and growthconditions was...

A systematic study was conducted to understand the influences of catalyst combination as Ni-Co NPs on carbon nanotubes (CNTs) grown by Chemical Vapor Deposition (TCVD). The DC-sputtering system was used to prepare Co and Ni-Co thin films on silicon substrate. Ni- Co nanoparticles were used as metal catalyst for growing carbon nanotubes from acetylene (C2H2) gas in 850 ̊ C during 15 min. Carb...
متن کاملDiamond films from combustion of methyl acetylene and propadiene
To date diamond films grown with the combustion technique have used either acetylene or, rarely, ethylene as the fuel. However, there are barriers to large scale commercialization of the combustion technique using either fuel. For example, acetylene is relatively expensive and difficult to handle, while the use of ethylene gives relatively low growth rates. In this letter we propose replacing a...

We report, for the first time, quadrupole mass spectrometry of neutral and positive ionic hydrocarbon species measured at the rf-biased substrate electrode of an inductively coupled plasma for acetylene rich C2H2 : Ar mixtures under various bias, frequency and pressure conditions. It has been observed that, irrespective of initial gas mixture, the resultant plasma is dominated by argon neutrals...
